Christians VS. Muslims...again?

OK!
Why not just convert all Christians in sudan and get it over with?!
Why is religion such a big issue?
Why is Islam the more dominant religion although the majority are not even Muslim?

Personally, am a proud Muslim but I dont see why we should judge others based on their religion. Thousands have died in Sudan in the last 20 years because they share different beliefs but why is it such a big problem? Sudan is governed by "Sharia Law", I would understand if we are talking Saudi Arabia since the population there is 100% Muslim but Sudan is religiously mixed so we just CANT do that ( no wonder most Christian sudanese are in Australia, America and England!)
I have to admit that things are better in Sudan than they were 10 years ago but after reading this article, I have to "reconsider" what I just said!

Sudanese Worshipers Attacked During Service1/2/2007
The Episcopal Church of the Sudan reports police attacked worshipers on New Year’s Eve, firing tear gas grenades inside All Saints’ Cathedral in Khartoum. The Rev. Sylvester Thomas reported that 20 minutes after the Sunday service started, nine gas bombs were shot into the crowd of about 500 worshipers. In the ensuing melee, several members of the congregation were beaten by baton-welding policemen as they fled the building, Canon Thomas told the AFP news service. Six people were reported to have been hospitalized after the assault. While no official explanation for the attack has been given by the Islamist government in Khartoum, the Arabic-language newspaper Al-Sudani reported that police entered the cathedral in pursuit of a man wanted in connection with an assault.A spokesman for the Church of the Sudan’s provincial office in Juba told The Living Church a protest would be filed with the government over the incident.
